Dry Hair In Men: Tips To Prevent It

Y ou get dry hair when your hair is not able to maintain enough moisture. That could be due to a number of factors, but generally, it isn’t a huge health risk. However, if you are into fashion and grooming, this could pose a problem because dry and brittle hair is harder to style without intensive chemical support. But fear not, here are some home remedies you could try to reduce your dryness.

Do Not Wash Your Hair Every Day

Shampoos are only necessary when it comes to removing dirt and sweat from your hair. The reason why you will see a lot of experts telling you to not apply your shampoo every day is that shampoos also remove Sebum, which is a natural oil that your body produces that moisturizes your hair. Too much Sebum is obviously bad as well because it can lead to greasy hair; however, you need to alternate the days where you wash your hair to prevent dryness

Avoid Using Hairdryers

Hairdryers save you a lot of precious time but it is also extremely damaging to your hair according to studies. Instead of air-drying your hair, we recommend wrapping your hair around a cloth or a towel. However, make sure you do not keep your head wet for an extended period of time as the effects of that are similar to hair drying.

Cold Showers

After applying shampoo and then conditioner, we recommend placing your hair over some cold water for a while. That freshens up your scalp and re-moisturizes your strands better than hot water could. Coldwater also helps your hair grow faster which helps in the process of replacing dry hair with more moisturized ones.

Start Covering Your Hair Outside

Wear some form of a hat when you are outside. UV light has the tendency to damage your hair, so we need to reduce exposure to it as much as we possibly can. If you cannot manage a hat or some form of covering, apply aloe vera gel to your hair so that it reverses some of the damage done by the sun.

Oil Your Hair

Studies show that natural oils such as coconut oil are pretty good at penetrating your hair fibers and lubricating them.

Here is what you need to:

  • Take some coconut oil and apply it in your one of your hands
  • Gently rub the oil between the palm of your hand
  • Rub your oily hands against your head rubbing your scalp with your fingers
  • Repeat the process until your hair is sufficiently lubricated but be sure that you do not oversaturate it as that is harder to rinse off
  • Let it rest for a few hours
  • Rinse it off thoroughly (ideally apply shampoo and conditioner)

If you don't have access to coconut oil, consider using any of the following:

  • Neem Oil
  • Almond oil
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Sunflower seed oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Avocado oil

Cut Down Your Hair

Dry hair can often mean that your hair needs to be trimmed. This allows the dryer parts of the hair to shed off and allow fresher strands of hair to grow. If dryness in your hair is a recurring problem, we recommend establishing a frequent trimming routine until the problem resolves itself.

Change Up Your Diet

You need to incorporate various foods in your diet that include Omega-3 and various antioxidants. Omega-3 helps with keeping your hair shiny while antioxidants counteract the effects of aging.

Foods that have Omega-3 are mostly seafood-based. Examples include:

  • Tuna
  • Sardines
  • Salmon
  • Oysters

Substances that are rich in antioxidants include:

  • Walnuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli

Healthier fats such as avocados, olive oil, and fatty fish are also essential in maintaining decent hair health so don't forget to take that as well.

Conclusion

These are some tips to prevent dry hair in men. It must be noted that these are just tips at the end of the day, they are sure to work. A lot of people that have dry hair are that way genetically so perhaps you must face the reality that this is who you are.
