2020 was quite a struggle for movie lovers. The restrictions placed on cinemas due to covid made it impossible for so many of us to watch our favorite movies, leaving our calendars boring and dry with no movies to look out for.

Not only did cinemas close down but movies themselves stopped coming out! The pandemic took over and movies that were in the process of being shot had to pack up and delay the filming to avoid spreading COVID-19. The precautionary laws were not letting up at all. 

Many studios also had to delay the release of many finished movies due to cinemas being closed.

However, 2021 brought a new ray of hope as covid restrictions began lifting and things finally started getting back on track! And while the 2021 movie season is almost over, This year still has a lot left to offer! Besides, 2022 is right around the corner and is bringing with it a lot of new great movies as well!

Spiderman: No Way Home

Release Date: December 17, 2021

Fans of the MCU have a lot to look out for in the coming season, but this one probably takes the cake! No Way Home is probably the biggest crossover we’ve ever seen in Superhero movie history, even bigger than 2019’s Avenger’s Endgame! Fans have been speculating for a long time whether or not this movie was going to be a crossover event of the classic Spiderman movies from the past, and the new ones. These rumors were finally confirmed earlier this year when the trailer for the movie dropped, showing us hints of Doc Octopus fighting against Spiderman.

The movie brings together the 3 main portrayals of Spiderman over the years. The 2002 Sam Raimi version portrayed by Tobey Maguire, the 2012 Mark Webb version portrayed by Andrew Garfield, and MCU’s Jon Watts’ version portrayed by Tom Holland. It also brings back iconic villains including Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. So, superhero movie lovers, watch out! This one’s not a movie you’ll want to miss.

Killers Of The Flower Moon

Release date: Sometime in 2022

Martin Scorcese is undoubtedly one of the greatest directors of all time, from making classics like Raging Bull and Goodfellas, to his most recent Oscar-nominated epic: The Irishman. While not much is yet known about the movie, it is a western film, set in the Wild West of the 19th century. The movie brings together 2 of the greatest actors of all time together, Robert De Niro and Leonardo Dicaprio, their second time acting together. The first time was in 1993’s ‘This Boy’s Life’ which was also Dicaprio’s first major movie.

Killers of the Flower Moon will mark the much awaited and anticipated return of Brendan Fraser! While the beloved actor’s comeback has been in the making for quite some time, this is definitely the biggest project he’s worked on since his return to the big screen and we couldn’t be happier for him!

The Matrix Resurrections

The Matrix is one of the most famous Sci-fi movies of all time. The first Matrix movie took the world by storm, showing great leaps forward in visual effects and having an incredibly engaging story that was much deeper than it seemed. After the release of Matrix Revolutions in 2003, fans thought that was the last they’d see of the iconic franchise. But another part was announced out of nowhere some time ago, taking us all by surprise! With the resurgence of Keanu Reeves in pop culture due to the John Wick franchise, fans want to see him in anything, and to see him reprise the role of Neo (perhaps) one last time is something all Sci-fi fans should look out for this year! The Batman is definitely one of the most anticipated movies of next year. This movie was initially quite controversial for casting Robert Pattinson, as many people thought that he was miscast. However, the internet quickly came to his aid, showing people his range in movies like Good Time and The Lighthouse, proving that he’s not just Edward Cullen from the Twilight movies anymore. This take on Batman is quite different from the ones we’ve seen before. While Batman has always been a dark character, this movie aims to take it even further, doubling down on the dark crime genre. This one is definitely a must-see for both Batman fans and crime movie fans alike.
